My name is Tony Carr, and I am the owner of Yoga College of India, Oakland.

My mission is to provide to the Oakland community a variety of Bikram yoga that came to fruition before Yoga became a big business.

I believe one of the gifts I have come here to share is an abiding love for all types and kinds of people, and the ability to unify a community of people who are all pursuing their own betterment.

Though this form of Yoga is purely physical and is a fairly new development, it is rooted in the spiritual and cultural traditions developed in India and elsewhere over thousands of years.

I intend to offer a form of Bikram yoga which is pure and proven. At the time this studio came into being, Yoga was as much a of a spiritual pursuit as it was a form of exercise. The economics of Yoga has, since, diluted out a lot of the spiritual content of Yoga. I would like to bring some of that spirituality back.

If you are looking for a soulful, safe, enthusiastic, and dedicated community in which to develop your Yoga practice — and experience the many fruits that come from that practice — you are in the right place.

Namaste,
Tony Carr, Director of Yoga College of India, Oakland
